Dear Bookers & Programmers,

After a long delay, Sunken Roads: Three Generations After D-Day will finally have its theatrical premiere on November 5, 2021. We think it's the perfect film to commemorate Veteran's Day, either for live screenings or on Virtual Cinema. Please let me know if you'd like to see a screening link!

Don McCarthy was 20 years old on D-Day, when his infantry division landed on Omaha Beach. Don and the other veterans who survived D-Day will someday soon have passed into memory and legend. This realization inspires 20-year-old filmmaker Charlotte Juergens to join Don and seven other D-Day vets on a journey to France – a commemorative pilgrimage to Omaha Beach for the 70th anniversary of the invasion.

The vets come to see Charlotte as a granddaughter, trusting her with their stories as they confront the trauma that still haunts them 70 years after the war. In capturing their lives, Sunken Roads offers an intergenerational perspective on D-Day, presenting the memories of 90-year-old combat veterans through the eyes of a 20-year-old woman.

How They Got Over tells the story of how Black gospel quartet music evolved into rock and roll, and in the process helped to break down racial walls in mid-twentieth century America.

"The essential story of the cross-fertilization between gospel music and rock ‘n roll. Filled with insightful commentary as well as rare, spectacular footage."
-Billy Price, R&B/Soul singer

A journey through the gritty world, brilliant mind, and noble heart of Nelson Algren, author of The Man With the Golden Arm as well as notorious lover of Simone de Beauvoir. Including never-before-seen archival footage and interviews with William Friedkin, Russell Banks, Philip Kaufman, Billy Corgan and John Sayles, the film is an intimate, witty portrait of this fearless, one-of-a-kind artist.
